This first post is basically going to be the “About” page all over again, so please bear with me.
Voices of Venus is a monthly showcase of women’s spoken word and live literature, held in Ottawa, Ontario. For just over two years now (we debuted on May 12th, 2009), we’ve been getting together at Umi Cafe, on the second Tuesday of every month, for a women-only open mic (if you sign up to perform your poetry/story, you get to attend for free) and feature performance by an emerging or well-known Canadian woman writer.
This blog is the next step in growing our showcase. It gives us a bit more of a web presence — you can also follow us on Twitter (see sidebar), and you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org — and lets us promote Canadian women poets, fiction writers, and storytellers, as well as letting you folks know what (and whom) you can expect at upcoming shows.
I hope you’ll stick around, join in the conversation about Canadian women writers, and maybe drop by our showcase if you’re in town.
