Hey, everybody. 🙂
Now that the excitement of VERSeFest has passed, I can get the jump on telling you about our next VoV show!
Being a big femme, and my partner in crime being firmly in the gender-non-conforming camp, we’re both really excited to be bringing Jan Andrews to our stage on March 14th.
Jan is one of Canada’s premier storytellers, a mover and shaker in the Ottawa storytelling scene, and one whose work frequently touches her audiences profoundly both because of her skill as a teller and because of the subjects she speaks on.
Her bio tells us: Jan has only recently taken to telling the stories of her own life. It’s been quite a journey, taking her across Canada, to the UK, and to Melbourne, Australia for Midsumma, Celebrating Queer Culture (among the largest Queer Arts festivals in the world). In the process, she’s discovered she has much to say to and for a sector of the GLBT community which has so far been given little artistic voice.
On the fourteenth, Jan will be telling “Who Wants the Dress”.
A little about the show:
Having come out at almost fifty and gone through a number of resulting struggles, Jan Andrews believed she was easing into older age with everything settled and clear. Along came the winds of upheaval, carrying her back to her childhood when she desperately wanted to wear boys’ clothes. Woven around a literary story by magic realism writer Sara Maitland – a seal story about a man compelled to dress as a woman – Who Wants the Dress? is the tale of what happened next.

See you on the 14th! 😀
