The Morning After (Amber Dawn: Redux)

So. Last night was phenomenal.
No surprises there.
The open mic was packed with excellent poets (and one mandolin-player — a VoV first) who gave us poetry about cigarettes, romance, and overcoming your fears; and Amber Dawn, of course, rocked the house with stories about sex work, carny-dom, and first kisses.

Venus Envy did a heavy trade on Sub Rosa, Fist of the Spider Woman, and With a Rough Tongue: Femmes Write Porn; I got my copy of Sub Rosa autographed (and I was not the only one); and a good time was had by all.

Thanks, Amber.
Come back to Ottawa soon. ❤ 🙂

TTFN,
A.

P.S.: You can read more Amber Dawn – this time talking about writing process, form, and genres – over here. Enjoy!

Welcome to Amber Dawn Month at VoV

Okay. So the news is out and about in Ottawa, but of course I need to announce it here, too:

This November 9th, fabulous femme writer, performance artist, and sex-worker turned sexual health educator AMBER DAWN is featuring at Voices of Venus.

Femme Super Hero and Lambda-Award Winning Author, Amber Dawn

My Femme Heart is all a-flutter! 😀

If you’re not familiar with Amber Dawn… where have you been, my dear?

She’s the editor of With a Rough Tongue: Femmes Write Porn, the co-editor of Fist of the Spider Woman: Tales of Fear and Queer Desire, and her magical-realist novel, Sub Rosa won a Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Debut Fiction.

She’s also toured three times with the infamous Sex Workers’ Art Show in the US; was voted Xtra! West’s Hero of the Year in 2008; and is currently the director of programming for the Vancouver Queer Film Festival.

In short, she’s fucking awesome, and you should all come out to see her. 😀

Details:
Wednesday, November 9th, 2011
Venus Envy (320 Lisgar at Bank), in Ottawa
Doors and Women’s Open Mic sign-up: 7:30
Show starts at 8pm
Cover = $5, but we won’t kick you out if you’re broke.

See you at the show! 😀

Cheers (and I’m so excited!),
A. 😀
